Car - 1 / Jonesy - 0

So I purchased a road bike to get to and from work rather than taking the bus. I figured its not only a savings of $30 a week but it's also an awesome way to burn an additional 300 calories a day as well and great for my cardiovascular fitness to boot.

I've had the bike for about three weeks tops with no issue but got clipped by a car coming out if a drive-thru dry cleaner place this morning. He didn't look very well but his vision was obstructed a bit by the exit way of the building. I managed to avoid any serious injury and just got a few bruises.  I ended up flipping my bike and landing on his hood. Probably more damage to him than me, not that I'm really sorry.

Anyway, lesson learned and I will take extra caution around that bike path area for future reference.  Other than that, the day was great. I'm three days in to a new food plan. I'm averaging 6 meals a day with a breakdown of 172P / 167C / 43F (avg 1770 calories a day). I'm spacing the meals out about 2-3 hours a day as I usually do and adding in extra carbs about an hour before my workout. I have heaps of energy but am periodically really hungry about 30 minutes before some of my meals.

I did a Dexa Scan about three weeks ago and was shocked to discover body fat percentage had sky rocketed to 26.4% up from 17% in August.   This is of course after dieting down towards 11% at the end of September (although I did not get a scan then so not sure of exact measurements).  So in four shirt months I more than doubled the amount of fat in my body.  As my coach would say, GOOD EFFORT!!!

So back to a more cleaner way of eating and putting in 3-4 sessions of cardio a week to bring that fat level down. Ideally would be good to maintain around 17% as my goal.  I will get another scan in about 8 weeks.  Until then, one day at a time.

It's Been Awhile

My last blog and post on that blog was quite a long time ago. July 2011 to be exact. "Hannah of Oz" I titled it and I used it as a bit of an online journal documenting my first year here in Sydney. Three years later I'm still here but man, have things changed.

"The Journey of Jonesy" will also serve as an online journal but I'll be using this one to document my progress, growth, challenges and emotions during the build up between competitions.  I competed for the first time this past September in a Figure Competition with INBA.  Does that make me a Figure Competitior? No. Am I going to start a new Facebook Fan page? Negative. Am I going to switch careers and become a PT and coach other woman onto the stage with my all my "infinite knowledge and experience"? Definitely not.

I simply found a hobby that I happen to love and want to see what my body is capable of over the next 12 months. I've decided to compete again in March 2015 so that I can give myself proper time to grow enough muscle and balance out my conditioning so that when I do diet down next time, I'm fuller, have more muscle and it will be during summer. It's really difficult to diet through winter. I'm  like a bear preparing for hibernation- I want to fatten up!

So this blog may not appeal to the masses. It may appeal to anyone thinking about getting in to this sport. I'm going to be brutally honest and I will document progress pics, measurements, Dexa Scan updates and anything else that I'm going to want to track and look back on. This is something that I wish a lot of competitors did more of and something that would have been invaluable to me prepping for my first show.  I had two amazing coaches and both quite experienced in competing. To have had the chance to learn more about the mental side of competing would have been huge. At any rate, I learned a lot about myself and plan to keep learning and challenging myself this year as well.

Follow along if you're keen.
